Hibernation is over --I'm waking up the bears
It's been a long hard winter and visits to the gym dropped off like we've never seen before. That's why I've put together a Get Back on Track program because I know from years of personal training that the longer you stop working out, the harder it is to return to it.
You may wonder why it's so difficult to pick up the pieces. The fact is a body in motion stays in motion, and the opposite is equally true. A body at rest stays at rest. Unless, affected by an outside force. Which in Toronto, appears to be me.
Still, getting people back on track does require a very different approach. To explain it in a nutshell. Imagine you're a car that's been sitting in the cold all winter. Your battery is dead. I need to jumpstart the battery for you. But if the alternator isn't working, your battery isn't going to charge. In other words, it takes a whole car approach to get you on the highway. Mind, body, and spirit.
Interestingly, because your muscles are comprised of different types of fibers, you don’t just lose muscle mass when you stop exercising; you also experience a conversion of your slow-twitch endurance muscle fibers and fast-twitch strength-producing muscles fibers to easily fatigued “couch potato” muscle fiber types. So your body doesn’t just lose muscle, but the type of muscle it has actually changes!

No one gets through this journey called life without sometimes eating way too many empty calories in front of the TV – and suffering a broken heart. We’ve all been there.
I know what I’m talking about. I’ve been rejected … twice—but who's counting. Today I’m in a happy relationship, and I know I owe my good fortune to the training that helped me build up my body and spirit. My way to get revenge was to get off the couch and get in shape, to look better and feel more positive than ever before.
Now I train others who are where I’ve been to channel their negative, hurt feelings into their workout. And people have seen terrific results.
So let’s just say, this program is close to my heart.
Like all my training, it’s customized. But the program always meets several key objectives, which are mainly to get you stronger and feeling more powerful. And to have a lot of fun as we go.
I’ve used The Best Revenge methods with men and women who are getting over a break-up, or coping with other types of adversities, such as job loss.
During the program, I talk a lot about taking negative energy and turning it into a positive source of fuel. Often, clients ask me if I believe that what we put out, we get back. The popular term for that phenomenon is the Law of Attraction.
I can only speak to what I’ve seen. And I have certainly seen that for myself, and for so many others I’ve trained, life turns around when you’re radiating healthy, upbeat energy. Life gets good again.
So how does the Best Revenge Program work? We do…

· body work that builds your resilience, powered by visualizations that uplift you.
· stretching and breathing that leaves you feeling calm for a positive journey forward.

Like my Best Revenge program, this program is personal.
I lost my mother way too early. Following her hip injury, my mother remained inactive when we knew exercise to get her moving would have made an enormous difference to her well being.
It was after losing my mom that I decided the one thing I could do was train others how to keep active, regardless of their age or injury, so they’d have a better quality of life.
The challenge can be that some of us get set in our ways. I know about stubborn parents. My mother was as strong-willed as they come.
That’s why I designed this program carefully to be fun, effective and convincing for even those parents who always know best.
This program is especially fun for adult kids and their parents to do together. (I also customize one for teens and their parents which is just as much fun—stay tuned for another blog on that.)
In any case, there’s a great bond that happens between family members when they exercise together. The training sparks some fun competition, with each person egging the other on, challenging them to give just a little bit more. We cheer a lot, we laugh a lot, but at the same time, we move a lot.
I make sure every exercise is carefully tailored for the age and abilities of each participant. This way, our time spent together provides a great workout that’s right for each participant – each one will see their strength, flexibility, balance and cardio improve.
I teach seniors’ boot camps, so I’m especially experienced in making sure the exercise program works with the individual’s particular range of motion, and mobility.
This program includes
· Flexibility for a youthful spine and fluid movement
· Weighted and non-weighted methods for tone, balance, posture, strength
· Cardio to improve circulation
· Deep breathing for relaxation
Here's a twist to what we do: I ask each person to choose their favourite music. This way everyone can learn each other’s beat, and train to it
Training together puts a whole new spin on family time.
